WHAT DOES ONLINE DBT THERAPY INVOLVE?

DBT Skills Training

Want to learn the skills in a way that the research shows is effective? We run an online DBT skills training group via Zoom which people access from all over the world. DBT skills groups run more like a class where our expert therapists teach you DBT skills from the Linehan skills training manual.

1:1 DBT Sessions

Looking for additional tailored support? Individual therapy involves weekly one-to-one 50 minute sessions via Zoom or VSee. The individual sessions work to reduce impulsive behaviours in and out of therapy, as well as helping you to reach your goals and through learning new skills.

Crisis Coaching

Worried about how you will cope whilst learning the skills and putting them into practice? We offer DBT Crisis Coaching via phone for clients in between sessions, where the therapy team will help you put specific skills into practice through skills coaching. The skills coaching can be an integral part of the recovery process.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) is a form of talking therapy that is based on cognitive behavioural therapy (known as CBT). DBT is specially tailored for people who experience intense emotions. DBT aims to help you both recognise and accept your difficult feelings.
DBT therapy is used to treat a range of mental health conditions, including: Borderline Personality Disorder. ADHD. Mood disorders, such as depression and bipolar disorder. Eating disorders, such as bulimia nervosa. Addictions, such as drugs, alcohol, or gambling. Chronic anger issues.
Dialectical behaviour therapy is an excellent treatment for anxiety. It helps people become more aware of their thoughts and feelings and learn new ways of handling difficult emotions. DBT also teaches people how to regulate their emotions better, which can be helpful for reducing the symptoms of anxiety.
People with BPD greatly benefit from DBT, as this is what the therapy was developed for initially. But over time, dialectical behaviour therapy for borderline personality disorder has been found beneficial for a wide range of other behaviour-related conditions, including eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and self-destructive and addictive behaviours. In fact, anyone experiencing unregulated emotions can benefit from DBT.
Yes, dialectical therapy is an effective treatment for depression. This form of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) combines mindfulness with traditional cognitive behaviour techniques. Mindfulness helps you to focus on the present moment rather than dwell on past failures or worry about the future. This can help to reduce levels of stress and anxiety, which often contribute to depression.
DBT has been proven to be beneficial in the following ways: Reducing the risk of suicidal ideation and self-harming behaviours. Preventing behaviours that can otherwise hinder forms of therapy. Changing behaviours that negatively affect the quality of life. Learning and mastering behavioural skills to make life choices not induced by emotions or moods. Reducing the symptoms related to trauma, stress, anxiety, and depression. Enhancing and supporting self-respect.
There are several reasons why individuals may need or benefit from dialectical behaviour therapy training. These include: You’re experiencing an emotional rollercoaster that never stops. You are having difficulty in forming and maintaining relationships. You are using ineffective coping skills to manage your emotions. Other forms of therapy have not worked for you in the past.
If you cannot find ‘DBT therapy near me’, it may reassure you to know that online DBT has been found to be just as beneficial as in-person sessions. Both individual therapy and skills group sessions can be completed remotely online. Aside from a few changes to manage the physical distance between participants, the sessions are exactly the same as in-person treatment.
There are four primary skillsets that individuals can learn through DBT to improve their lives. These areas are mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. Learning and practising these interconnected skills will help you improve your overall mindset and ability to function.
Mindfulness focuses on the ability to become aware of and accept the present rather than focusing on the past or the future. Distress tolerance helps develop skills to better cope with stressful situations. Emotional regulation works on ways to manage and change strong emotions. Interpersonal effectiveness focuses on developing the skills you need to improve your relationships with others.
